Video: 3 Personal branding tips

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

In the midst of so much uncertainty, the futures of our careers can feel entirely out of our control. It's a helpless feeling to look into the future and not know what our next career move will be, what opportunity will present itself, or where we're going to land.

I like to stick to the "control what you can when everything feels out of control" mantra, which is why I think investing time in building personal branding can be such a powerful tool. A strong personal brand can feel like a life raft in the middle of rough career waters.

If, over time, you build a network of advocates and a personal brand that showcases your strengths, story, skillset, and ideas, I believe opportunities will show up for you when you need them the most. One post, one introduction, one idea at a time, if we put ourselves out there now, we build a powerful professional brand. And it only takes a few simple steps.

1. Know your value-adds and set yourself apart

2. Tell a compelling career story

3. Share your work, goals, and ideas with your network

I had the opportunity recently to talk to my sorority, Tri Delta, about some simple tips to build a personal brand for the current job market. Check them out in this video, read the article here, or listen to our full conversation on the Tri Delta Podcast, Let's Talk Tri Delta.
